Volunteer Land Stewards Program

Caring for Conserved Lands

VOLUNTEER LAND STEWARDS PROGRAM

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful,
committed citizens can change the world.
Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
– Margaret Mead

Land Stewardship

The Southeast Alaska Land Trust is responsible for monitoring, managing, and maintaining 42 properties totaling over 3,600 acres throughout Southeast Alaska.

Our mission has always been to serve our community.

Through the Land Stewards program, we hope to provide a tangible way for people to make a difference, increase the community appreciation and understanding of our beloved landscapes, and drive change for future generations.

What do Land Stewards do?

The Southeast Alaska Land Trust Stewards Program gives individuals who value natural areas and have a deep connection and commitment to Southeast Alaska lands the chance to care for the landscapes that they cherish.

Stewards visit their adopted property for general property surveillance several times per year and coordinate with the Stewardship Specialist to report observations and join for at least one visit.

Volunteer Land Stewards will have the opportunity to:

  • receive training, education, and information about SEALT’s conservation properties,
  • develop and enhance a sense of place on conserved lands in Southeast Alaska,
  • spend time in nature,
  • be recognized as a leader within the community as a SEALT Land Steward, and
  • network with committed land stewards across Southeast Alaska.
