ARTIST STATEMENT
Picasso said “Painting is just another way of keeping a diary.”
I usually carry a small set of watercolors and a journal in my backpack. Sometimes I stop along a trail because something about the scene demands notice. Maybe it’s the light bouncing leaf to leaf or the clouds playing tag with the mountain tops. I might try to quickly sketch the essence before I’ve exhausted the patience of my fellow hikers or my fingers get too cold. When I get home some of these sketches become paintings, or what Picasso might call one of my diary entries.
